Downtown will have you in stitches this week as we welcome comedians Gary Menke and Brent Terhune. Gary Menke has been making people laugh for over 20 years. In addition to his appearances on hit CBS show Nash Bridges, he has been on Comedy Central and featured on Satellite Radio, and the Travel Channel. Menke’s show is high energy, current, squeaky clean and full of true stories. Well, sort of true and almost clean. Check him out.
As for our next comedian – Characters, voices, one liners, and time-tested monologues-comedian Brent Terhune is the embodiment of all these things and more. Not many comics can pull off Brent’s laid-back style of comedy and still remain just as absurd and funny, but equally relevant and relatable at the same time. Currently, Brent is a writer for the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Radio Show (he’s been on the show, too) as well as the co-host of the immensely popular podcast that is enjoyed by dozens of listeners, The Interweb Podshow. He’s the creator, writer, and illustrator of the Uncle Frank comic strip and he’s performed at the Iowa Comedy Festival, Gilda’s Laugh Fest, and the Cleveland Comedy Festival (runner up 2012), the Limestone Comedy Festival, and the Laugh Your Ashville Off Comedy Festival.
Snatch up your tickets to see these incredible guys. They’ll be performing Wednesday July 3, Friday July 5, and Saturday July 6.
Summer is a time for comedy and so far, it’s been fantastic and is only getting better. This week, Crackers Broad Ripple welcomes Pete Lee to Indianapolis.
Hailing from New York but raised in Wisconsin, Lee made it television debut in 2005 on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. That same night, he met his future wife, and she made him move to Manhattan. Soon after moving to NYC, he was selected to perform at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, where he was voted a standout performer. There is much much more… Lee is so freaking funny, we’ll let the video below speak for us.
Okay, now that you’ve had a good laugh, if you’re on Twitter, you should follow Pete @peteleetweets and fan him on Facebook. You can also learn more about Pete’s history on his website.
Okay… so most of you know Charlie Murphy, especially if you’re in the comedy circle. Murphy, who was a cast member on the highly successful “Chappelle’s Show,” has taken leaps and is now a top-billed international comedian, playing to sold-out audiences around the globe. He’s spent the past 8 years performing his critically acclaimed stand-up show and solidifying his position in Hollywood as a true acting, writing and producing talent, in his own right.
Well, lucky for us Indianapolis folk, Murphy will be HERE at our Broad Ripple location, cracking us all up from Wednesday July 17 – Saturday July 20. Check out the video and get your tickets. They will go fast.
Charlie has toured nationally w/ the “I’m Rich Bitch” comedy tour, featuring fellow “Chappelle’s Show” cast members Bill Burr and Donnell Rawlings. “Charlie Murphy and Friends” and a co-headlining tour with Mike Epps followed. Next, Murphy co-headlined the 20-city “Maxim/Bud Light Real Men of Comedy Tour” with Joe Rogan and John Heffron. Soon after was the headline tour “I Will Not Apologize” for which Murphy filmed his first DVD special of the same title. Distributed by Image Entertainment, this special premiered on Comedy Central in the #1 slot and is available in stores, Amazon.com and iTunes.. Internationally he has invaded Europe and Canada, an accomplishment very few American comedians can boast of.
I had the pleasure of catching up and chatting with Broad Ripple’s headlining comic Dan Cummins (September 29 – October 2). If you’re not already familiar with his ire-hilarity, you’ll surely recognize him from his Comedy Central special Crazy with a Capital F, which re-aired this past Friday night. You can check out clips from this special and more here:
Dan’s no slouch. He’s one of those comics that’s constantly creating, and he’s multi-talented; just check out his camera-ops work AND his newsanchor skills in Fresh”> off the Pot!
On top of writing and testing hours of new material each week, a busy tour schedule, and crafting genius short stories for a book, Dan’s also hard at work pitching show ideas to the network big-wigs at the History Channel, Spike TV, and more!
